Two Wigton firms have hosted their first school visits in over two years.
Innovia Films and CCL Secure welcomed 29 year 11 students from Nelson Thomlinson School this week to help them in their studies of health and safety and polymers.
The visit was co-ordinated by Paul Barker, global tech services and application development manager at Innovia Films,
He said: “Visits like these enable them to see for themselves, how scientific development and high-quality technology is applied in industrial settings.”
Gary Frizell, engineering and sustainability manager at CCL Secure, said: ” We are very pleased to have the year 11 students visit our plant, especially since we have not had the opportunity to provide any educational tours during the last couple of years due to the pandemic.
“The continuous engagement with Nelson Thomlinson School gives young people the opportunity to witness how manufacturing works on a day to day basis, gaining a practical perspective beyond their classroom learning. Further, we hope the visit sparks life to a career in science, engineering and technology.”
Sam Northwood, headteacher, added: “It was a really exciting opportunity for the pupils.
“The pupils have really enjoyed this opportunity. We are delighted that such strong links continue to exist between the school and the local factories; while we educate pupils and prepare them for the world of work, Innovia and CCL provide a very real incentive and a longer-term objective for the pupils as they look at their lives beyond school.”
