Barrow fans not travelling to Crawley for Saturday’s League Two clash are being advised to support the town’s other main football team.
Holker Old Boys have a big game at home on Saturday in their quest for promotion to the Premier Division of the North West Counties League.
It’s a big afternoon for the Holker teams as they host Nelson in a play-off semi-final – and Barrow AFC have said they’d love as many Bluebirds fans as possible to head to Rakesmoor Lane to support them.
An impressive campaign saw Old Boys finish as runners-up to champions Bury AFC in NWFCL First Division North and now they’re looking to win promotion to the Premier Division via the play-offs.
A message from the Bluebirds said: “With Barrow playing away at Crawley Town on Saturday, it would be fantastic to see any fans who aren’t making the long trip to Sussex, go down and back Jason Walker and his teammates in their semi-final.”
Barrow-born Walker is 38 now and enjoying life at Holker after a long career, mainly in non-league.
In his first spell at Barrow between 2007 and 2011 he scored 46 goals in 140 games. His second spell was 2014 to 2016 when he netted 27 goals in 74 games.
His career had started in 2004 at Greenock Morton where he scored 12 times in 75 games.
His list of former clubs include Morecambe, Luton Town, York City, Forest Green, Southport, Workington and Lancaster.
On Tuesday night at home to Ashton Town, Walker came up with a 90th minute equaliser in a 2-2 draw in the Macron Cup. The tie went to penalties which Holker won 4-1.
Kick-off on Saturday at Rakesmoor Lane is 3pm and the bar will be open to fans before and after the game.
