Only two games were played in the Workington and District Sunday League, but both were very close affairs.

Indeed Dearham and Blue Bell couldn’t be separated in their Premier Division clash.

It finished all square at 1-1 with Taylor Manchester scoring for Dearham and Carl Denver netting for Blue Bell.

The first Premier League Divisional Cup semi-final was close but it did produce a winner with Northside getting through to another final, 2-1 against the Sun Inn.

It was a tie not without controversy as two debatable penalties, one for each side, were awarded. Jamie Bramley knocked home his for Northside to give them a 2-1 lead to take into half-time.

Then in the second-half, five minutes from the end, Sun skipper Shaun Smith saw his penalty saved by Andrew Mitchell when he had the chance to take the tie into extra-time.

Mally Graham had given Sun the lead with a strong finish after clever play by Dan Pearson but Gary O’Driscoll levelled for the home side. Bramley’s penalty then proved to be the eventual winner.

The two teams will meet up again at Borough Park in the final of the President’s Cup.

Northside will have to wait to see who they play in the Divisional Cup final as the other semi-final between Deer Orchard and Salterbeck has been put back until Wednesday, April 20.

The Division One game between the Junction and JJ’s was called off late after the visitors revealed they had five players down with Covid.

Games on Wednesday night (ko 6-30) are: Premier Division – Northside v Deer Orchard. Division One – JJ’s v Maryport Athletic.

Sunday, April 17 – Division One Divisional Cup semi-final – Sun Inn Athletic v Flimby Social Club.

Premier Division – Blue Bell v Deer Orchard; Dearham v Sun Inn.
