Carlisle City recorded a quick Northern League Division Two double over Willington.
Having won 4-0 away on Saturday, City followed up with a 5-1 victory at Gillford Park to edge nearer the play-offs.
This time the Willington side was much-changed and proved to be far more effective for long stages of the game.
Yet it didn’t look like it as City got off to a flier within two minutes as an Irving run and cross was finished off by Kerr from eight yards.
There were early signs that this was a much-improved Willington, and Bates saw his shot blocked on five minutes.
Three minutes later, it was 1-1 as Hartley was beaten on the left by Prudhoe, and Storey was well-placed at the back post to equalise.
City were then unlucky as Atkinson struck a fine free-kick but it just clipped the top of the bar.
From this stage on, Willington won a lot of the ball and looked clearly the better side.
Kirkup was forced to concede a 19th minute corner which was fired wide by Bates and then keeper Townsley had to be alert to foil Storey.
Kerr was looking the main outlet for City and he won a 25th-minute corner which caused a scramble in the Willington area.
On the half-hour, Storey was very close to a second for Willington with Townsley just tipping his shot against the far post.
Irving then broke clear on 32 minutes but his shot was saved easily by Cameron, and Kerr was close as his 20-yarder flew wide.
It seemed inevitable that Kerr would notch City’s second on 41 minutes as he capitalised on fine build-up play from Irving.
City were more dominant in the second half and Irving’s 55th-minute shot deflected for a corner which was to bring the third goal.
As the cross came over Kirkup was unstoppable as he burst through to head his tenth of the season.
Irving was then booked for a foul and the game quietened down with no real alarms for the home side.
In the 66th minute, Irving did really well to set up Holt who should have scored, but allowed Cameron to make the save.
Irving was then clear again on 73 minutes but his shot was blocked by Cameron.
City’s finishing was sloppy as Kerr fired wide and this was his last contribution before being helped off with a nasty-looking injury, and was replaced by Longcake.
Another glorious chance was missed by Holt and he was not enjoying his best five minutes as he then missed when clean through on goal.
The two substitutes linked up stylishly for City’s fourth goal on 87 minutes.
Grandison held the ball well and cleverly flicked through to Longcake, who stormed into the box and finished effortlessly past Cameron.
Grandison was enjoying a fine cameo role as he looked unlucky not to win a penalty as his shot appeared to be blocked by a hand.
City’s third substitute, Studholme, added the fifth goal deep into injury time as he converted a corner from close range.
