Workington Town coach Chris Thorman has taken to Twitter to express his frustration over a lack of recruitment for the struggling Championship club.
Town, the only side without a Championship point soi far, have been desperate to bring in new faces to strengthen the squad over the last fortnight.
They did not have a game last weekend and now face up to successive perceived “six pointers” against neighbours Whitehaven (away) and Dewsbury (home).
Last night Thorman tweeted: “I’ve been involved in many deals and contract negotiations during my time in rugby league over the years and in the last couple of weeks I’ve come to realise that there aren’t as many people with integrity as you’d think in our beloved sport. Keep your standards high people.”
Who he is referring to is not revealed but the Town coach had been hoping to bring up to three new faces into the squad before the derby clash on Easter Sunday.
Town have experienced a number of injuries this season but not as many as Whitehaven who were left with just 11 fit players at the end of their 1895 Cup game at Sheffield last Saturday.
Thorman’s opposite number Jonty Gorley has been able to bring in three short-term loan players from Super League clubs – George Roby (Huddersfield), Jack Bibby (Wigan) and Marcus Walker (Hull).
But even with those additions Gorley is struggling for numbers as a mounting injury list has decimated his squad.
In the previous game at Halifax he could only name three substitutes and had no more options from the bench at the end of the game.
Haven do have four Championship points to their name and lie ahead of Dewsbury (2), London Broncos (1) and Workington (0).
But matches involving direct clashes between the quartet are seen as likely to determine who stays up and who drops into League One.
