The battle for the Cumberland County Premier League title will be decided this Tuesday after the latest results took the competition to the wire.
Current leaders Aspatria travelled to Gosforth to play their final League game and ensured they retained top spot with a close 3-2 victory.
Goals from Darryl Creighton, Logan Dixon and Andrew Trestianu saw them claim all the points although Gosforth proved to be stern opposition, replying through Jordan Livingstone and Cameron Bowness.
The clubs in second and third place, Workington Athletic and Pirelli met and it was the visiting Carlisle side who came out on top as they eased to a 7-2 victory.
The Athletic goals came from Greg Quayle and Connor Hammell but they were unable to prevent Pirelli moving into second place. Pirelli scored through Kieran Blair (4), Liam Delaney, Ben Davidson and Jordy Atkinson.
Pirelli will need to defeat Cockermouth in a mouth-watering fixture at home on Tuesday to deprive Aspatria of the title.
There was one fixture in the Divisional Cup when Mirehouse hosted Whitehaven Amateurs Reserves. It was the Amateurs who came out on top winning 6-2, with goals courtesy of Will Starkey (2), Jay Connor (2), Travis Fyfe and Bobby Carter. The replies from Mirehouse cameg from Nathan Dryden and Kyle Bailiff.
Disappointingly Silloth FC have had to withdraw from the competition due to difficulties with player availability.
The Benevolent Cup competition will be concluded on Saturday when Division One side Whitehaven Miners take on Pirelli in the final at Gillford Park. Kick-off is at 2pm.
