The first Taste Cumbria festival of the year takes place in Wigton on Saturday.
It includes a producers’ market, chef demos, live music, hot food, cold drinks and a few new additions for 2022.
This year Taste of Wigton will feature Taste Cumbria’s first Cake Off competition with entries accepted up until 2pm on the day.
The judge of this blind tasting contest is Fell Foodie, aka Harrison Ward.
He’s famed for merging his love of cooking with his passion for the mountains, as well as sharing the importance of spending time outdoors for physical and mental wellbeing.
Fell Foodie will also be showing off his cooking skills on the demo stage at noon and 2.30pm. Joining him for the demonstrations will be Victor Nwosu from Wiga Wagga award-winning chilli products, and Wigton’s own John Crouch who is a lover of spices and fusion cookery.
In between demos, there will be live music on the festival stage, with the chance to sit in the picnic area with some tasty food and drink.
Also new for 2022 is the entrepreneurs’ market which will see young producers who are just starting out showcasing cakes, candles and more.
There will be loads of family activities too, including treasure hunts and a children’s activity village with the Rainbow Wishes Foundation in the Market Hall.
There will also be a free talk with Wigton-based author and photographer Trevor Grahamslaw. This takes place in Cornerstone Methodist Church on High Street from 5.30pm.
The festival starts at 10am on Saturday and finishes at 5pm, before Trevor’s talk. Water Street car park is closed from 3pm on Friday to allow the event team to set up.
Taste Cumbria Wigton will be followed by Taste Cumbria in Maryport on August 13 and 14, then the flagship festival, Taste Cumbria in Cockermouth on September 24 and 25. Taste Cumbria Christmas, also in Cockermouth, will be held on December 10 and 11.
