Cumbria Action for Sustainability has been chosen as one of 145 nationwide that will have all its donations doubled for one week, kicking off on Earth Day today.
Until April 29, any donation to Cumbria Action for Sustainability will be matched, as part of the Green Match Fund 2022 run by the Big Give. It means that supporters can double the impact of the money they donate.
Earth Day is expected to see more demand for action on climate change around the world after the United Nations recently gave its most urgent warning yet about the need for action.
In response to the UN’s stark call for immediate and deep emissions reductions, Cumbria Action for Sustainability is launching the Big Cumbrian Climate Challenge to raise £5,000 in public donations, which will then be doubled to £10,000 by the Big Give.
The award-winning Cumbria Action for Sustainability works with individuals, communities and organisations across the county to help them reduce their use of fossil fuels.
Chief executive Karen Mitchell said: “Our projects and services help local people to take action on climate change in ways that are beneficial to them and their communities.
“Inspired by Earth Day, we’re looking to raise £10,000 in a week so that we can ramp up our work to fight climate change.
“Just to give one example, our Cold to Cosy Homes Cumbria service is currently helping Cumbrians cope with the cost-of-living crisis with our free energy helpline.
“A donation of £100 could enable an adviser to complete a full home energy assessment for someone living in fuel poverty. Any support during this week will have twice the impact, so please donate if you can.”
