Northside have been crowned champions of the Workington Sunday League’s Premier Division again.
For while they were hammering Blue Bell 8-0, the only side who could possibly have overhauled them Deer Orchard were losing 6-4 at home to the Sun Inn.
Northside had just a little wobble last month but have bounced back in style and can still add more trophies to their collection as they are in all three cup finals to be staged over the next fortnight.
They could actually have won the treble when they will be presented with the Premier Division Championship trophy on Sunday, May 15 after their final game – ironically against Deer Orchard.
In the big win over Blue Bell, the Northside goals came from Gary O’Driscoll (3), Jamie Bramley, Tony Berwick, Michael Kilgour, Adam Kilgour and Kyle Graham.
Deer Orchard result
In their defeat to the Sun Inn, Orchard’s goals came from Kyran Bertram (2), Sam Wright and Luke Ivison.
The Sun shone with goals from Scott Davies (3 – one pen), Dan Law, Ben Allen and Mally Graham.
Maryport Athletic result
Maryport Athletic are also chasing a double in Division One having gone to the top of the league with a midweek 1-0 win at Highfield courtesy of a goal from Lewis Mattinson.
On Sunday they beat JJ’s 3-1 in the semi-final of the Divisional Cup with goals from Hayden Barcock, Joe Hetherington and Ethan Weir. Mitchell Wood netted for JJ’s.
In the Divisional Cup final, they take on Sun Athletic on Wednesday, May 4 at Borough Park (6.30pm).
Those two Athletics are the main contenders for the Division One title. Maryport lead by six points but Sun have two games in hand, and the pair are scheduled to meet in the final fixture of the season at Aspatria which could be a potential title shoot-out.
