An exhibition has popped up in The Lanes Shopping Centre in Carlisle, to showcase original works by Carlisle College students.
Artwork is on display in Interference, in unit 8, opposite New Look until Friday May 29, from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
Students from the University of the Arts London foundation diploma in art and design, are exhibiting a range of their work including painting, printmaking, photography, illustration, graphic design, fashion, and sculpture.
The exhibition will also feature public drawings in progress and interactive works which visitors can contribute to.
Paul Taylor, course lecturer, said: “After working virtually for two years it’s great to actually have a physical exhibition that’s open to the public, to remind the students, and also ourselves, that the work they create belongs in the wider world with an audience. It’s also a really good opportunity to take stock of what great things have been achieved so far this year and to set the bar high for the last weeks of their final projects, which they will be exhibiting at the college.”
Foundation student Rosie Humpage, said: “I have taken inspiration from old family slides and considered how memories can get mixed up and change over time, they can become fragmented, and I have communicated this through my work on display here in the exhibition. I have a real passion for art and it is great to be able to exhibit in the heart of the city.”
Fellow student, Kate Hornby added: “Students and staff are available during the exhibition to answer questions about the work and the course, so it’s a great opportunity for us also to interact with the public, and to speak to them about our artwork. I plan to attend Liverpool John Moores University in September where I will study fine art, so the exhibition as well as the course has all been great experience.”
