Upper Eden’s Captain’s Night for the presentation of awards had a Mexican Fiesta theme

Upper Eden first XV made history in the season just ended by winning every single Cumbria league game.

They played 16 games and won 16, proving to be the best showing in the club’s 47-year history.

To celebrate the end of a hugely successful season the club organised the presentation Captain’s Night with a Mexican Fiesta theme.

Club chairman Neil Marston thanked all the captains, coaches and club members who work tirelessly to make everything happen and keep the respective teams functioning.

The first team’s top try scorers were: Richard Addison and Liam Fox 19 each, Will Birkbeck 13 and Matthew Brass 9.

The other awards were as follows: Most improved, Matty Sanderson; Best trainer, Jordan Newitt; Players’ player, Will Birkbeck; Coaches’ player, Richard Addison; Best young player, Rupert Civil; Top supporter, Dave Morland; 2nd’s players player: Fin Rose; Clubman of the year, Barry Ellwood.

The Eagles women’s team finished a very credible third place in the league.

They played 14, won 8 and lost 6, scoring 462 points and conceding 297.

The Eagles’ top try scorers were Lucy Branthwaite 15, Chloe Collinson 12 and Josie Scrimgour 11.

Most improved, Jodie Rothery; Best trainer, Sarah Oakley; Players’ player, Lucy Hogg; Coaches’ player, Lucy Branthwaite; Top supporter, Col Simpson.

It was a frustrating season for the 2nd xv with many games cancelled in the Cumbria Shield League.

They managed to pick up friendlies and, in the end, played 15 games, winning ten and losing five.
