Danny Grainger is back as manager of Workington Reds almost a year after he left.
.Grainger had led Reds to the brink of promotion in 2019/20 when the season was declared void.
He had them third and challenging strongly when the follow-up season was voided very early in the campaign.
He was plotting a third time lucky response in June 2021 when he left to take the assistant manager’s job at Falkirk.
That ended in December with a brief spell as caretaker manager and he has been concentrating on his own Penrith Academy since then.
Reds have turned to Grainger again following the decision not to renew the contract of Chris Willcock after a heartbreak end to the season.
The Reds board said: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Danny Grainger. Positive negotiations have taken place over the last few days and Danny will get to work immediately preparing for the new season.
“We wish Danny all the best on his return and we hope he can continue the progress made during his last spell with the club.”
Grainger said: “It’s great to be back with the people at the club. Hopefully we can build together on the success of the past two seasons both on and off the pitch.”
