There may be fewer trails this season but more often than not the races are more competitive because of the bigger fields.
The HTA raced at Kirkland on Saturday and 135 dogs contested the four trails with three of them producing very tight finishes.
Cautious is owned by Stephen Riley of Cleator Moor and has been running well recently, proving to be the day’s easiest winner, coming home in front of a selection of good hounds.
Huntsman’s Rascal is owned by Denise Bland but is in the care of James McClelland at the moment. He has stepped up a grade from the May Day trails where he won the puppy maidens and he took the puppy trail at Kirkland, just getting up to beat Huntsman’s Rebel in a tight finish.
The enthusiastic Team Foxparke were delighted after the open non winners saw Foxparke Beeb Beeb and Foxparke Whoosh finish first and second with Dundee a close third.
Blue Diamond owned by Brian and Erin Rawlinson and Joe Fearon came home in front of Bretton owned by Julie Birkinshaw and Brian Graham in the open restricted which had the biggest entry of 46 hounds.
