An Ulverston charity is grateful for the support of a major music festival taking place this month in Barrow.

St Mary’s Hospice has been chosen as Pitch Up Festival’s principal charity, with the festival donating a cut of the profits to them.

The festival will be publicising the charity on their big screens and around the festival site and St Mary’s Hospice will set up dedicated text numbers so festivalgoers can donate.

Pitch Up Festival is taking place on Saturday May 21 and will see chart-topping artists including Tom Zanetti, Bad Boy Chiller Crew and LOWES take to the stage at Barrow’s Dunes Hotel Stadium.

St Mary’s Hospice head of fundraising, Helen Carlson said: “We’re really excited for the Pitch Up festival, they have an amazing line-up and it’s great to see something like that coming to our area. We’re so grateful that they’ve chosen to support us.

“We provide care all year for families on every street in every town and village across South Lakes and Furness, all the way up the Duddon Valley to Millom. It costs more than £3.5m each year and we only get 20 per cent of our funding from the Government, the rest we have to raise ourselves.

“Events like the Pitch Up festival enable us to bring in funds and also to spread the message about the work we do to families across the region.”

Pitch Up is being organised by three Barrow business partners, Joe Jackson, James Howden, and James Bonner.

Joe said: “It is a proud moment for the three of us to give something back to such an amazing selfless organisation. The pandemic has reiterated just how important the work they do is.

“The support they provide is incredible and it feels only right to help in every way possible. We will also be giving free tickets to every member of staff as a thank you.”

Tickets for the event are limited to 5,000 and are available at eventim.co.uk. Gates for the festival open at noon and the festival ends at 11pm.
