
Mike Mitchelson has been appointed as Carlisle’s new mayor.
Councillor Mitchelson has taken on the role after serving a year as deputy mayor to Councillolr Pam Birks.
He was sworn in at a Mayor Making Ceremony at the Civic Centre and the Conservative Member for Brampton recited the ancient Mayoral Oath giving his allegiance to the city and its citizens.
Councillor Colin Glover was sworn in as deputy mayor.
This year’s event was the last Carlisle City Council Annual Council.
From April 1 next year, local government in Cumbria will change. The current six district councils and Cumbria County Council will be replaced by two new unitary authorities. There will be one new council covering the current area of Allerdale, Carlisle and Copeland, the council’s name will be Cumberland Council.
