A Maryport residents’ association has teamed up with local organisations to put on a free Jubilee Community Event next month.

Ewanrigg and Netherton Tenants & Residents’ Association (ENTRA) have teamed up with Ewanrigg Local Trust (ELT) and Home Group to deliver the Ewanrigg Jubilation Celebration on June 1.

The event is a free family fun day where local residents can come together and celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee Year.

Ragged Edge Productions is working with local community groups to develop an interactive audio story trail which will be available for local residents to enjoy on the day.

Other free activities include giant inflatables, trade stalls from local businesses and activities, children’s activities and a cream tea.

The event has been funded by a grant from ACE Let’s Create Jubilee Fund, administered by Cumbria Community Foundation and Allerdale Borough Council, with additional support from the two partner organisations.

Sharon Barnes, chair of ENTRA, said: “We are thrilled to have received funding for Ewanrigg’s Jubilation Celebration event.

“Our band of willing volunteers have been ‘putting the flags out’ and encouraging everyone to join in and celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee.

“We’ve been running activity sessions in the run up to the big day with Ragged Edge Productions who have been working together with local residents to celebrate what is special about ‘our home’, culminating in an interactive audio storytelling trail which will be available to people on the day.

“The funding will enable us to provide the activity for free, which means everyone has the chance to participate. We have all really missed being able to meet socially during lockdown and this is a fantastic opportunity for us all to get out of our houses and enjoy an outdoor day of fun – together.”

The event will take place from 1pm to 5pm on the community field outside the Ewanrigg & Netherton Community Centre. The event is free and open to everyone, with no need to book.
