West Cumbrian speedway star Dan Bewley enjoyed his best Grand Prix since joining the elite this season.
In only his third event Bewley reached the semi-final and although missing as place in the final he was delighted to have finished third in his heat.
He was also very luck to finish the racing in one piece as his bike had broken in two in an earlier heat.
Bewley, a former Workington Comets rider from Maryport, tweeted afterwards: “What a night! First semi-final and placed sixth overall. Glad to leave in one piece because unfortunately one of my bikes didn’t.”
He displayed a picture of him leaving the meeting carrying the front part of the bike which had snapped underneath him.
Bewley has now gathered 20 points from his three Grand Prix appearances and is lying 12th overall.
The current leader is Bartosz Zmarzlik (Poland) on 44 pts while winner Martin Vaculik (Slovakia) has 29 pts and is ninth.
In his semi-final Bewley was battling with fellow British rider Tai Woffinden for second after Maciej Janowski got away and the order wasn’t changed with Leon Madsen back in fourth.
Bewley was out three times in the first nine heats and had a third, a win and a second.
Heat thirteen was certainly unlucky for the Cumbrian because that’s when he suffered a freak accident with the bike snapping. He was very fortunate that he was uninjured and able to take his final programmed ride when he finished a close second after a great battle with Woffinden.
