Whitehaven’s on-loan hooker Cain Robb has just signed a new two-year contract with parent club Castleford Tigers.
Robb, who has impressed at Haven in two games despite heavy defeats, is only 19 but is being tipped for future stardom at the Jungle.
A product of the Castleford Academy since joining the club in 2014, Robb had played amateur rugby league with Beverley and West Hull.
Before joining Haven on a short-term loan deal Robb had played five senior games for the Tigers and was a regular in the club’s Reserve team.
Talking to the game’s trade paper Rugby League Express, Robb said: “My target now id to get more regular minutes in the first team.
“These next two years I want to be pushing on and pushing myself to be trying to get into the first team.
“My short term goal is my development as a player but my long-term goal would definitely to be to get that number nine shirt with the first team.”
The man in possession is the 2020 Man of Steel winner Paul McShane who Robb says has helped greatly in his development.
“Working alongside someone who has won a Man of Steel is great for me because he teaches you so many lessons both on and off the field.
“Having that composure as a hooker is something he has helped me with a lot,” says Robb.
Lee Radford, the Castleford head coach, added: “He has some real work to do physically for us to see the best of him and hopefully we can watch him progress over the next couple of seasons in that area.
“He has good enthusiasm. Plays with good energy as we have seen in the games he has played in the first team.”
