West Cumbria’s Carnegie Singers paid a visit to Workington RNLI after they raised cash for the charity which saves lives at sea.
The choir has chosen Workington RNLI as one of its charities for this year and a Christmas concert, plus donations, raised £100.
But the singers didn’t just want to hand over a cheque – instead, they treated some members of the crew to a rousing rendition of What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor at the boathouse, in front of the crew’s all weather lifeboat.
Members of the volunteer crew joined in with the singing.
The singers were also given a tour of the lifeboat station and were shown around the all-weather lifeboat.
and lifeboat operations manager Tim Chittenden said: “We are very grateful to the Carnegie Singers for choosing Workington RNLI as their charity this year.
“The RNLI is a charity and our volunteer crew are on call 24/7, 365 days a year. Organisations, groups and individuals power our lifesaving service – and help give our volunteers everything they need as they strive to save everyone.
“Our volunteer lifesavers give their time for free, but they need training, well-maintained equipment, lifeboats and shore facilities.
“Without the support of the community, we would not be able to do what we do. We cannot thank the Carnegie Singers, and everyone who donates to us, enough.
“We have a marvellous fundraising team who work really hard by holding their own events and attending shows and other events across the area. They have a stall on Workington market to help raise funds too.”
David Jones, chairman of the Carnegie Singers, said: “We chose Workington RNLI – and Hospice at Home West Cumbria – as our two charities for this year. We are happy to support local charities and all the work they do.”
