The three-day event, including teams from all four home countries, was for senior players over the age of 60, 65 and 70.

Taking part were two present, and two past, members of the Carlisle club who were with the England Over-65s squad.

Andy Waters is an ex-Carlisle captain; Keith Richardson is a current member and team coach; Andy Bradbury is a current player while Mike Patton is a former Carlisle player, now living in Cockermouth, who acted as team manager.

Bradbury actually finished the tournament as England 65s B’s top goal scorer.

As well as England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales Over-65s, an LX 60s side and England 60s B took part in the round robin competition.

The England Over-65s, with their Carlisle input, finished third and scored victories over Wales and Scotland.

They are now preparing for a Regional Masters Tournament in a fortnight when the various age groups will be playing at Timperley and Solihull while on June 18/19 weekend there will a Festival being staged at Cockermouth School.

Even further into the Masters’ calendar is a big event in Barcelona when teams from all over Europe will be taking part.
