Workington Town couldn’t follow up Thursday’s vital win against London Broncos with any tangible reward at Batley Bulldogs.
They were well beaten 46-0 and for long periods seemed to be feeling the effects of playing their second game in 72 hours. It was a no-contest for most of the time.
Workington had been forced onto the back foot right from the start and within 12 minutes were as many points down.
Ben Gilmore started the early onslaught with an early grubber on sixth tackle which seemed to strike legs and come back conveniently for him to catch ands go over, before adding the conversion.
Then, following initial good work by James Brown, he threw out a long pass for Dale Morton to collect out wide and he went in unopposed for Gilmore to add the extras.
When Town were penalised for a high tackle on 22 minutes Gilmore took the two points on offer.
In a strong finish to the half Batley added a third try when Lucas Walshaw darted for the line and was able to slide over with Gilmore converting to give his side a 20-0 lead at the break.
It was a similar story in the second half when Town were always second best to a strong and purposeful Batley side.
Luke Hooley was the next to go in for Batley, sparking a second-half avalanche of points. Gilmore converted.
Two minutes later Hooley proved to be the provider when he made a fine cut-out pass for Morton to dive over for his second of the afternoon’
Ten minutes later Morton was in for his hat-trick after Buchanan made an interception deep in his own half and after two more tackles Batley were able to work the opening for Morton to score.
Two minutes afterwards the Bulldogs scored again when Curtis Teare dropped a ball over the try line and Hodson pounced to make the touchdown.
The final try of the game came five minutes from the end when Morton dived over for his fourth touchdown, which went unconverted.
It gave Batley two Jubilee holiday victories in which they conceded only six points and scored 46 against both Workington and Whitehaven.
