Nico Evangelinos follows Workington Reds players to Lancaster

Lancaster City have signed a third former Workington Reds player as they strengthen their squad for the 2022/23 season.

Forward Nico Evangelinos follows Brad Carroll and Brad Hubbold to the Giant Axe, all stepping up a level to the NPL Premier Division.

Evangelinos, 27, was signed by former Reds boss Chris Willcock – following him from Ramsbottom where he scored 52 goals in 72 games and made a lot of others.

Unfortunately his season with the Reds was marred by persistent injuries but when he did play and was fit he looked a talented player.

Certainly there was disappointment among Workington fans when the trio – plus Kyle Harrison – all moved on as they had all been very good players for the Reds.

It’s all change at this time of the year as two other former Workington players have just left Lancaster and have rejoined Kendal Town, another of their former clubs – Rob Wilson and Tom Kilifin.

So far returning Reds boss Danny Grainger has added three new faces to his squad – the Marine pair Lewis Reilly and Ben Hughes, along with former Kendal and Penrith midfielder Greg McCarragher.

Grainger has am number of trialists lined up to train with his squad and then be given opportunities in the pre-season friendlies he has lined-up.
