Cumbrian forward Ryan Bowman expects to be back in action for the 2022/23 season despite having heart surgery.
Carlisle-born Bowman, 30, had always planned to have surgery after he had to come off playing for Shrewsbury because of palpitations last October.
It was decided then for him to undergo an ablation procedure which helps maintain a healthy heart rhythm.
Bowman, who has scored ten goals in 42 League games for the Shrews, has now targeted a return to pre-season training to be ready for the League One campaign.
He told the club website: “It’s like a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders since the operation. I’ve always had mild palpitations and an irregular heartbeat but nothing as extreme as I had in the Ipswich game in October.
“To know that it won’t happen again is a big relief to me.
“The recovery time is better than we all initially thought it was going to be.
“I need to stay off my feet for a week or 10 days and then gradually get back to light jogging and build myself up. I’m hoping to be able tom go straight into pre-season training with the lads if all goes well.”
Since joining Carlisle United in 2009 Bowman has had a nomadic have boots will travel career. He played nine times for United in the Football League without scoring and 14 on loan at Workington when he bagged a couple of goals.
Since then he’s played at Darlington (40, 10 goals), Hereford (39, 15), York City (37, 8), Torquay Utd (37, 12), Gateshead (48, 19), Motherwell (72, 10), Exeter City (97, 32) and Shrewsbury (42, 10).
