
Carlisle rugby union club is preparing for a special weekend featuring the Border City Sevens.
The first BC7 was voted a big hit when staged in 2019 but the pandemic has meant the tournament was shelved – until now.
After the success of the inaugural event the club has arranged a similar line-up for the 2022 festival.
As far as the rugby is concerned Colts, Women’s and Men’s Rugby will be spread over the two days with Colts tomorrow night from 6pm and Men’s and Women’s competitions from noon on Saturday.
The Colts competitions gets underway at 6.30pm with Carlisle v Keswick followed by Penrith v West Cumbria Babas at 6.50pm. They will continue to meet in a round robin format’
Contesting the women’s competition are Carlisle 1, Carlisle 2 and Cumbria Babbas again with the teams playing each other in a round robin format.
Eight teams are contesting the main men’s tournament and are split into two groups and again working on a round robin series of games.
In Group One are: Carlisle, CA2 Boys, Austin Friars and Halbro while Group Two consists of Border Barbarians, Carlisle Colts, Wildcard V11 and Austin Friars Old Boys.
There will be a Plate final before the main Border City Sevens Cup final.
Festival marquees and furniture being supplied by Cumbria Marquees will be going up on the pitches.
There will be live music from Scotty Dee, Hi Dynamics on Friday and Ritz on Saturday with DJ Adam Teasdale mixing in between.
There will be plenty of children’s activities to make sure there will be something for all ages and these are being provided by All4Fun and Action Ants.
