Cumbria’s Dan Bowman is joining the coaching team at one of his former clubs, Kendal.
The 39-year-old Bowman has been coaching Workington since 2009 when he was Cumbria captain.
Although he had started playing rugby league for Derwent Park Rangers he started to make a name for himself in union when he switched to Workington Zebras.
He stepped up to a higher level with Kendal and then moved up again when he joined Fylde.
The opportunity to coach his hometown club saw him return to Workington as player coach and he has continued to be involved at the Ellis Sports Ground, as well as his role as head coach with Cumbria.
Chris Hayton, director of coaching at Kendal, said: “Dan’s coaching skills have blossomed with Workington and the Cumbria Senior Men’s team.
“Many of our players are familiar with Dan’s style of coaching through their time with the county squad, which makes him a good fit into our team set up.
“Dan is keen to develop our players and coaches and is looking forward to working with everyone at the club at what is an exciting time for all of us.
“I’m sure our supporters will welcome Dan back to Mint Bridge as we all get behind him for 22/23 and onwards.”
He played for several seasons at Kendal where he was highly regarded as a clever, but tough, no-nonsense flanker.
Kendal will be playing in the newly formed Regional One North West and start the season on September 3 at Sandbach.
