Around 50 players from Kendal Tennis Club will be playing for 24 hours non-stop to raise funds for a south Cumbrian charity.
The club is holding a charity 24-hour tennis marathon on July 2 and 3 to raise funds for Carer Support South Lakes. It will include as many local tennis players as possible, from juniors aged four to club veterans in their 70s.
There will also be a social tournament, a barbecue supported by local farmers, strawberries and cream, junior games and activities, competitions for the fastest and slowest serve, a Spot the Ball competition and tennis for insomniacs, right through the small hours of the night under floodlights.
Kendal Tennis Club also hosts the fast-growing sport of Pickleball and Pickleball members will be in the thick of the action too, doing their bit for the charity.
Players give a donation on a JustGiving page to book an hour-long slot on court and junior players can be sponsored for how many balls they can hit without making a mistake. Many local companies have made donations of prizes to the event’s raffle including gym membership, afternoon tea in a Lake District hotel and luxury electric boat hire on Windermere.
The event has already raised more than £700.
Play starts at 3pm on Saturday and the last rally finishes at 3pm on Sunday.
