Southampton defender Dynel Simeu is unlikely to return to Carlisle United after a successful loan spell last season.
The 20-year-old Southampton-born defender established himself as a fans favourite during his 18 match spell with the Blues as he played a part in them surviving the drop.
United manager Paul Simpson, who inherited Simeu from predecessor Keith Millen, has admitted “there hasn’t been a conversation yet” over a loan return for Simeu.
It’s more than likely now, that after proving himself in League Two, Southampton will be looking for a season-long loan to a Championship club
Simeu only joined Saints from Chelsea last summer and the way he developed in his stay in Cumbria won him the admiration of his manager Simpson.
It appears, though, that a return to League Two is not considered an option for Simeu with a progressive loan targeted this season.
Simeu has returned to Saints with the first-team for pre-season training this week, with the hope of going away with the squad for a training camp in Austria camp early next month.
Southampton are keen to move on his career and a loan is expected in mid-to-late summer, with a Championship or League One move preferred.
