Opera North aims to inspire audiences in Eden

Opera North is bringing its music to Cumbria – and audiences can pay what they think their performance is worth.

In a rare opportunity, the renowned Chorus of Opera North will be performing at Penrith Town Hall from 7pm on Friday July 15 and at The Hive in Nenthead from 6.30pm on Saturday July 16.

They will be performing music ranging from Monteverdi and Fauré to Gershwin and Cole Porter, plus some songs inspired by home – wherever that may be. And audiences do not have to pay until they have seen the show and can decide what they think the show was worth.

Pay What You Decide not only allows people to pay what they can afford, rather than a fixed ticket price, but also removes the financial risk of buying a ticket for a show in advance without knowing whether they are going to enjoy it or not. Tickets are available to book in advance as usual, but there is no obligation for customers to pay until after they have seen the show.

Opera North is a national opera company and a leading UK arts organisation. With a roster of award-winning work touring theatre stages and concert halls throughout the UK and overseas, Opera North’s aim is to make bold, innovative, ambitious work and share it in new ways.

The company believes opera and music is for everyone, and champions diversity in artists, repertoire and audiences. Opera North Education connects with communities and inspires each generation, aiming to enhance the health and well-being of people in the communities where they work through arts participation and performance.

The performances are supported by Eden District Council under its new Inspiring Eden Arts & Culture Programme.

Council leader Virginia Taylor said: “I’m delighted to welcome another great performance to Eden and hope many of you will come along to enjoy the show and be a pioneer in arts throughout the district, including experiencing the new role in the community for Penrith Town Hall.”

Tickets can be booked online at https://highlightsnorth.co.uk/event/summertime-with-opera-north/ or by calling 01768 353954 for Penrith Town Hall, or 01434 408040 for The Hive at Nenthead.
