Following their 3-1 win at Holker Old Boys on Saturday, Barrow visit Ashton Utd on Tuesday night – as they turn the clock back.
Ashton have played at Hurst Cross since 1879, which makes its one of the oldest football grounds in the world, some three decades older than Barrow’s own Holker Street.
Both sides were founder members of the Conference North in 2004, and last met in a competitive fixture in December of that season. They had previously met several times in the NPL.
Steven Ridley hammered home an injury time rebound from Gavin Knight’s initial effort that hit the woodwork to seal a 2-1 victory for Lee Turnbull’s ten-men Barrow.
New manager Pete Wild was happy enough with the opening 3-1 win at neighbours Holker OB, and also praised the opposition for their performance.
“I thought they did really well and made it a good, competitive game so there were plenty of pluses,” said Wild.
The first half line-up saw new boys Solomon Nwabuokei, Sam Foley, George Ray and Richie Bennett all feature.
Josh Gordon opened the scoring after 10 minutes with a shot across the keeper to put The Bluebirds ahead and the lead was doubled in the 33rd minute.
George Ray played out a splendid ball from the back to the feet of Remaeo Hutton who then found the head of Richie Bennett with a pinpoint cross.
Holker Old Boys sniffed around the Barrow penalty area on couple of occasions, but didn’t provide too much trouble for Paul Farman. However, the home side pulled one back when a cross from Sean Paterson found its way into the back of the net on 39 minutes.
Pete Wild fielded a new XI for the second half. Sam McClelland, Billy Waters and Tyrell Warren all put on the Barrow shirt for the first time.
Barrow grabbed a third goal with an excellent strike by a trialist from 25 yards in the 71st minute.
Barrow First Half: Farman, Hutton, Nwaboukei, Gordon, Kay, Gotts, Foley, Grayson, Ray, Bennett, Canavan.
Barrow Second Half: Moloney, Taylor, McClelland, Ellis, Waters, White, Trialist, Trialist, Trialist, Warren, Stevens.
