After a 5-1 win at Millom, Brian Dawson is looking forward to time on the training pitch with his Cleator Moor Celtic side before the next game.

Celtic take on Crook Town on Saturday, July 23, as they build up to the start of the North West Counties League the following week.

“It’s an opportunity over the next week or so to get onto the training pitch and work on a few things.

“I thought overall we put in a good performance throughout with lots of positives, both individually and collectively.

“It was pleasing to see some boys return who haven’t had game time previously during pre-season.

“We also had the opportunity to look at a few players in different positions which will give us more options going into the season,” he said.

Celtic played some excellent football in the first half and opened the scoring after 20 minutes through an own goal after good work from Conor Hammell and Callum Birdsall.

The second goal came on the hour. Thomas Houghton had his shot parried into the path of Kieran Maguire who made no mistake.

Jay Wetherill then made it three after a great defence-splitting pass by Taylor Hambling.

Scott Williamson then scored a header direct from a Hammill corner before Millom pulled one back through Jamie Cairns.

Luke Ivison then completed the scoring with a fine solo goal in the dying minutes.
