Top scorer Jordan Palmer is leaving Carlisle City for a change of clubs ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Which suggests the young striker is ready to link-up with Workington Reds in the NPL West.
Palmer has been on trial with Danny Grainger’s squad and last night scored for a Reds team which won 6-3 at Penrith.
Originally it had been a game for Reds Development team against Penrith’s reserves but Grainger felt it was an opportunity for senior players to have another run-out.
He had been disappointed by Saturday’s 5-2 defeat at Kendal Town when there were a number of absences.
Ruben Jerome (2), Palmer and new signing James Hooper netted for Reds, along with two members of the Development squad.
Bobby Carroll, back after illness and Steve Rigg having his first outing of pre-season were two of the encouraging signs for Grainger.
However the slow progress being made by centre-half Sam Smith continues to be a concern and last night Grainger took a look at a trialist centre-half.
Meanwhile Carlisle City, who start their season in Northern League One on Saturday, posted a message on Twitter.
It said: “We are sad to have to announce that last season’s top scorer Jordan Palmer will be leaving the club.
“A fantastic 69 goals in 103 games is Jordan’s record with 33 scored last year.
“We wish Jordan good luck at his new club and the door is always open for his return.”
Manager Jim Nichols has expressed the belief that Palmer, from Shap, is capable of stepping up to a higher level of football.
