Bin collection disruption in South Lakes

Waste collection crews are working to catch up after bin services faced disruption in South Lakeland at the end of last week.

South Lakeland District Council said some rounds on Thursday and Friday were not completed ‘due to a combination of issues’.

Problems included a COVID outbreak at the Ulverston depot.

“Please be reassured that our crews will be doing their best to catch up over the coming days – subject to having sufficient capacity – and will prioritise grey bin (general waste) collections and blue bag and blue box recycling,” said a council spokesman on social media.

“If your collection has been missed, please leave your bins/boxes/bags out and we will do our best to return as soon as possible.

“If your green bin has been missed, please leave it out for collection for now but, if it hasn’t been collected by 5pm Monday, please take your green bin back in and we will empty it again on the next scheduled green waste collection date on your calendar as we may need to use all available vehicles and crew to clear the backlog of grey waste and recycling collections.”
