Barrow’s Sporting Director, Iain Wood, has praised the support of the Bluebirds’ fans – particularly in Tuesday’s game with Walsall.
A crowd of 3,435 watched Pete Wild’s side win 2-1 to go fifth in the League Two table.
Wood, who joined the club ahead of the new season, said: “What a great attendance for a Tuesday game and what a difference the crowd made.
“There are lots of cliches about home crowds being the 12th man, but that second half atmosphere rivals anything I’ve ever experienced at a football ground.
“It provided a massive lift to the players and enabled them to maintain their high pressing game right up to the final whistle. If anything, the noise level went higher when Walsall scored and that positive energy is priceless.
“It’s still early in the season, but the signs are encouraging. Let’s get the ground rocking like it was on Tuesday and against Bradford. I can assure fans the other teams aren’t looking forward to saying hello!
“Let’s start on Saturday with Harrogate Town. They’re a good side and had a good win this mid-week as well, but we are at home, so let’s make that count!”
Wood was appointed by the club in May with responsibility for all on-field activities in collaboration with first team manager Pete Wild, including player development, retention and recruitment, provision of training facilities, medical and support team liaison and the football analysis team.
He had spent the previous 15 years in player management with extensive experience and networks in the Premier League, EFL and the National League.
He gained considerable knowledge of building club player development functions, previously working with the likes of Chris Wilder and Alan Knill. Latterly, he has run his own successful agency based in Leeds.
