Kells need a win tomorrow in the NCL First Division to take the title race to the final week.
The Whitehaven side went down 34-12 in Bradford to West Bowling to lose the League leadership last week.
With two games left to play the Cumbrians trail Hull Dockers by two points, although they are still 78 points better on the scoring differential, which could be useful.
Kells will be firm favourites to win tomorrow at home to Featherstone Lions who crashed 78-0 at Stanningley last week.
The Dockers are also at home to mid-table Oulton Raiders, but both the top two sides should win to take it to the final fixtures.
To finish-off next week Kells go to Saddlesworth Rangers, who are next to bottom but the Dockers travel to Wigan St. Patrick’s who are fourth in the table and difficult to beat at home.
Kells coach Peter Smith had been disappointed that his side led 12-6 at half-time against West Bowling before conceding 28 unanswered points.
“I’m afraid it speaks for itself. We didn’t turn up in the second half and went into dumb mode.
“We just need two points to be promoted and it would be nice to go up as champions but that’s out of our hands now,” said Smith.
In the Premier Division Wath Brow Hornets are coming into form at the right time and in the last two games have beaten champions Thatto Heath and new League winners West Hull.
Their penultimate game tomorrow is at Leigh Miners Rangers who might need a point to be mathematically safe from the drop.
Hornets look like finishing fourth or five as they and Thatto Heath jockey for the play-off positions.
Unfortunately life in the top flight for Egremont Rangers is ending and despite last week’s much-needed morale-boosting win over Rochdale Mayfield they face a tough trip to second-in-the-table Hunslet Club Parkside.
Rangers are bottom of the Premier Division, two points behind Thornhill Trojans with both clubs bound for Division One next season.
In League Two Barrow Island look destined for the play-offs with Crosfields likely to clinch the second automatic promotion place behind champions Heworth.
The Islanders, though, will fancy their chances of adding another two points to their total tomorrow when they host next-to-bottom Beverley.
In Division Three Seaton Rangers have made the play-offs in their first season of National Conference League rugby.
It’s a question of where they finish for play-off programming – most likely third or fourth.
But they do have a real test tomorrow, albeit an attractive one as they host leaders East Leeds who need a point from their last two games to be certain of the title.
Hensingham only have Eastmoor Dragons below them in the table – and they meet tomorrow in Wakefield.
Millom have fallen short in their mid-season charge for a play-off spot and gave a tough game at second-in-the-table Waterhead Warriors.
