Barrow legend Steve McNulty has been appointed manager of NPL West side Bootle.
The 38-year-old former centre-half became a cult figure during his time at Holker Street between 2007 and 2009, playing 78 times and scoring 12 goals.
He takes over at Bootle following the departure of previous manager Brian Richardson who has left after just two League games in charge in which the team had picked up a point.
Richardson was relieved of his duties following Tuesday night’s 4-1 FA Cup defeat at the hands of Congleton Town.
A statement said: “The committee would like to thank Brian and his coaching staff for all of their work and commitment over the last season.”
McNulty, has now been confirmed as his replacement and brings a wealth of experience to the club.
He had signed for Liverpool at the age of seven and was in the youth system at Anfield for 13 years before being released to join Burscough.
He then joined Vauxhall Motors for a couple of seasons before joining Barrow and subsequently playing for Fleetwood Town, Luton Town, Tranmere Rovers and York City, before a stint in the Northern Premier League with Witton Albion.
At the back end of 2021, McNulty went to Chester as assistant manager and was registered as a player.
His first game in charge will be away at Trafford in the Pitching In Northern Premier League West Division on Saturday. Workington will visit Bootle on September 17.
