Rugby League fans across the country have until midnight tomorrow to answer a survey devised by IMG the new strategic partners with the RFL.
IMG are currently engaged in consultation, involving clubs, coaches, players and the media over the reimagining of the sport – and the fans are being asked to give their views.
There has already been speculation about exactly what they are going to come up with. Most expect a trimmed down professional game, but with new clubs being encouraged in Edinburgh and Dublin.
It does put a question mark over the future of League One and how Super League and the Championship are to be administered.
As for Cumbria’s three professional clubs Barrow are in the Championship play-offs this season; Whitehaven have just retained their Championship place for next season but Workington are heading back to League One.
One of the persistent rumours is that there will be a Super League and a Championship with ten teams in each as there seems to be unform belief that clubs play too many games at the moment for such a tough collision-based sport.
Supporters are actually being asked in the survey for their views on that very suggestion and how appealing it would be.
There is no mention of what happens to League One but clubs will be asked for views on the Challenge Cup, Magic Weekend, French clubs’ participation in Super League and expansion in general.
IMG also want to know if there is room for a competition similar to cricket’s The Hundred with regional/city-based involvement.
However, no hard and fast decisions have been made, as far as anyone knows and wit this current survey still to be completed by the fans their views will certainly be analysed before we get a clearer picture of what is planned for 2024.
End of September, beginning of October has been suggested as the time when IMG will be ready to unveil their ideas and plans for the reimagining of rugby league.
