A million pound vision for a new restaurant in Kendal town centre is set to take a step forward.
Loungers UK Ltd wants to transform the vacant former Burton clothing store in Stricklandgate and has submitted a planning application to the district council.
A statement from D2 Planning as part of the application, said the company’s Lounges place an emphasis on creating a ‘welcoming and inclusive environment for families (as well as four-legged friends)’.
“The aim of every Lounge is to tie in with local customers so that they can make of the Lounge what they will; whether a customer wants to come in for a coffee after dropping children to school, a working lunch, or a tipple after work, Lounges can provide an environment for all these purposes.”
The statement says the Lounges connect with charities and positive initiatives.
“For example, during the pandemic, a number of Lounge sites opened up to make food packages for local shelters and schools,” it said.
“Also, they will run reading groups, young mums’ support groups, Christmas initiatives as well as a number of [other activities].”
The submission to South Lakeland District Council said separate applications would be submitted for a new shopfront and for the installation of advertisements.
The statement added that Lounge staff were trained to a high standard.
“Lounges work through creating the desire for customers to come multiple times per month, as opposed to just a special event,” it says.
The statement says the company operates more than 200 sites across the country via its Lounge and Cosy Club brands. A Loungers UK Ltd spokesman said on a previous occasion that 25 jobs would be created at the Stricklandgate eatery.
An application for a pavement licence was submitted by the company earlier this month.
The application was seeking permission for the daily sale of alcohol between 10am and midnight and the daily provision of late-night refreshment between the hours of 11pm and 12.30am.
