A person was rescued from Whitehaven Harbour after getting into difficulty in the water.
Emergency services were called at around 8pm yesterday, August 30, after a 999 caller reported there was a person in difficulty in the water in the outer harbour.
Whitehaven and Maryport Coastguard rescue teams and Workington RNLI were called to the incident.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said: “It was believed they may be trapped within the mud, so our Coastguard mud rescue equipment was also tasked.
“With a very swift arrival on scene and the time critical nature of the incident, a Coastguard rescue swimmer on a tethered line entered the water and conducted a snatch rescue of the casualty.
“With the casualty safely brought ashore, Coastguards conducted a medical assessment and administered casualty care before handing them over to the ambulance service on their arrival.”
Once Coastguard officers and the casualty were out of danger, Workington RNLI’s crew, en route in its inshore lifeboat, was stood down.
