A takeaway is proposed for a growing business park in Carlisle.
Carlisle City Council has received plans to convert Unit 18, on the western boundary of Harraby Green Business Park, for use as a hot and cold food takeaway.
The unit was previously used for food preparation as the home of Healthy Living Kitchen with training spaces but no over-the-counter sales to the public.
Architects Harraby Green Associates said: “The intention now is for the premises to primarily provide hot and cold food (via telephone and online orders) to the occupiers of the business park during the daytime with local household deliveries to then take place during the evening.
“The proposal will make use of the equipment previously used by Healthy Living Kitchen and does not include a shop window or waiting area.”
The takeaway would be open from 11am to 1am, Wednesdays to Sundays and closed on Monday and Tuesdays.
Although the applicant has also applied for a seven day licence, they said that this is to provide flexibility for bank holiday cover.
Up to five members of staff could be employed at the business, one of which would carry out deliveries.
In supporting statements submitted to the city council, Harraby Green Associates said: “Apart from Unit 18, the only other available premises on the business park is a portable modular structure that is not suitable in terms of the hygienic preparation and cooking of food and has the disadvantage of being sited closer to existing residential properties.”
The business would look to mitigate littering and anti-social behaviour outside the premises.
The applicants said that the development should be viewed in the overall context of the underlying philosophy behind the commercial and residential development at Harraby Green, of establishing a sustainable community.
Harraby Green is also designed to be “readily accessible by sustainable methods of transport to retail premises” with direct provision of open space and allotments as well as employment opportunities.
