Workington Town will be desperate to leave their fans on a relative high after what has been a miserable season back in the Championship.
Town will finish bottom of the League whatever happens in their final two games but the last home fixture tomorrow gives them a chance of a prized local derby victory.
They take on Whitehaven for the fourth time this season with the current score 2-1 in the visitors’ favour.
Although Town won the Ike Southward Memorial Trophy game pre-season, Whitehaven have already won the two Championship fixtures at the LEL Arena and in the Summer Bash. They are looking to complete the hat-trick.
As well as a consolation victory, cash-strapped Town are also looking for a sizeable crowd to provide them with some much-needed financial help as this is the last game of the season at Derwent Park.
Town were disappointed to attract only 700 for the last home game with Dewsbury following a concerted effort to boost the attendance in light of their well-publicised financial issues.
They should comfortably top that tomorrow and victory over their neighbours, who confirmed their own safety last Sunday, would be some small consolation.
Town have named their squad of 21 and include Ryan Scott, selected today for Aspatria in their opening rugby union fixture of the season. Joe Kirkup will not be -playing for Silloth in their fixture and is also selected by Town after scoring a try last week at Featherstone.
The Town squad is: Thomas, Scott, Young, Bickerdike, Baker, Clegg, Doran, Henson, Simons, Scholey, Steele, Fitzsimmons, Thomson, Brown, Clarke, Forber, Hutchings, Kirkup, Terrill, O’Brien.
Whitehaven will be without skipper Karl Dixon for the last two games on specialist’s advice following a head injury.
The squad actually contains four players who appeared for Town earlier in the season – Luke Broadbent, Curtis Davies, Perry Singleton and Curtis Teare.
The squad is: Aiye, Bradley, Broadbent, Bulman, Cooper, Davies, Doyle, Eccleston, Evans, Graham, Holliday, Hudson, Martin, McAvoy, Olstrom, Singleton, Teare, M. Walker, T. Walker, Wilkinson, Williams.
