Whitehaven have the local bragging rights over Workington Town until these two old rivals meet again in League fare.
A 28-6 win at Derwent Park completed a Championship treble for Haven after Town had started the season by winning the Ike Southward Memorial Trophy.
That, and a Championship success over London Broncos, were the only games they have won this year.
Like a lot more clubs, however, both the Cumbrian rivals are anxiously waiting to see what the IMG League landscape will look like when they produce their blueprint for the future.
That is expected later this month/early October by which time Town hope to have a better grip on their finances and Haven will be in a better position to judge how their future is going to pan out.
For the time being it was all about today and the 1,427 paying customers saw Town second best for a lot of the game.
They were behind from the seventh minute and at the end of the first quarter they were looking at an 18-0 deficit.
Haven held a 22-6 lead ay half time and their converted try was the only score of the second period.
Andrew Bulman opened the scoring and Nikau Williams added the conversion.
Conor Holliday, who was to emerge in a starring role for Haven then crossed twice in quick succession and with conversions from Williams it was looking bleak for Town.
But with Malik Steele running strongly and posing some problems the hosts were given hope when Marcus O’Brien scored after 25 minutes and Carl Forber converted.
But Haven had the final word of the half when Dion Aiye got over five minutes before the break for an unconverted try.
Although Haven mainly had the better of things in the second half they scored nothing more after Will Evans went in eight minutes after the restart and Josh Martin tacked on the extras.Haven finish off at home to Newcastle on Sunday and Town travel to York.
