It was another draw for Carlisle United but a merited one at Field Mill as they ended Mansfield’s 100 per cent League Two home record.
It finished 0-0 but Carlisle had the better chances and after nine straight home wins, across the last two seasons, Mansfield were pegged back.
United should have gone ahead in the first half when Kristian Dennis steered a low cross wide from just eight yards, although he had looked in an offside position but no flag followed.
Morgan Feeney was also guilty of not making the best of his opportunity when his far-post effort went straight to keeper Christy Pym who should have been picking it out of the back of the net.
Pym, on loan from Peterborough, had to be alive later in the half when he made a fine save to deny Jordan Gibson when he whipped-in a strong shot.
Mansfield thought they had scored earlier in the first-half after George Maris’ shot was poorly dealt with by keeper Tomas Holy and George Lapslie knocked home the palm-out but was ruled offside.
Stephen McLaughlin drilled a fierce shot into the side-netting and Lapslie was just over with an effort from the edge of the box.
The best chance of the second half also went to Carlisle but top scorer Dennis was unmarked and six yards out but ballooned Gibson’s pull back high over the bar.
Late on Maris could have won it for Mansfield but slid a very good chance wide from 12 yards.
