Carlisle were outgunned, almost from start to finish at Consett as they crashed to a 55-19 defeat in Regional Two North.
Disturbingly it leaves Carlisle in the middle of a Cumbrian sandwich with Keswick and Aspatria at the bottom of the table.
On a day of big scores in the league it’s clear that its developing into two distinct halves, and unfortunately three of the four Cumbrian sides are right at the bottom of the lower half.
A rainbow had appeared over the Consett ground but there was definitely no gold at the end of this particular one.

In basic terms Carlisle can make excuses with the injury count rising and players unavailable, but there was no denying they were a poor second best.
Carlisle were still on the bus metaphorically speaking when Consett ran in two tries inside nine minutes to take a 14-0 lead.
The city side did have ball to play with but seemed too eager to cough it up at the most inopportune moments, giving the opposition front foot ball and having to scrabble back in defence themselves.
A third try on the half hour mark and a fourth a couple of minutes later for the bonus point, left Carlisle looking like rabbits staring into the headlights and a 26-0 deficit at half-time.
The second half didn’t give the visitors much hope as Consett piled the pressure on seven minutes in, when they took the points from an easy penalty.
Carlisle finally got on the score sheet from a five metre line-out catch and drive as hooker Tom Graham went round the side and through for an unconverted try.

Any hope of resurgence was swiftly snuffed out as they gave Consett a penalty for a five metre line-out which they moved wide quickly for their fifth try.
The sixth soon followed as poor tackling let the Consett player evade four tackles to go through for a converted try.
Another five-metre line-out gave Carlisle the opportunity to test the Consett defence and captain Josh Holmes managed to crash over for the second try.
Consett just restored the points difference five minutes later for their seventh try, and though Graham bagged his second try of the day three minutes from time, any hope of rescuing a try bonus point from the game was snuffed out right at the end.
Consett were able to collect their eighth try of the day, finishing as deserved winners.
