Having just released John Rooney, Barrow might be planning to replace him in the squad with former Swindon Town midfielder Jordan Lyden.
A 26-year-old Australian, born in Perth, Lyden represented his country at Under-20s level in Malaysia.
That was after he had moved to England in 2014 and joined the Academy at Aston Villa.
At the age of 19 he made his senior Villa debut in the FA Cup against Wycombe coming on as an 83rd minute substitute in a 1-1 draw. He was handed his first start, playing at right-back, in the replay 10 days later which resulted in a 2–0 win for Villa.
Lyden made his Premier League debut for Villa on 14 February 2016 against Liverpool, coming on as a substitute after 66 minutes with the team five goals down, the game finishing 6–0
He made his league starting debut for Aston Villa in his third Premier League appearance in April against Bournemouth but his Aston Villa career was beset by a number of injuries, and he found it difficult to stake a claim to a first team place.
In August 2018, after making only four first team appearances in his six years at the club, Lyden went on loan to Oldham Athletic and scored his first senior goal in November against Cambridge Utd.
He returned to Aston Villa in January 2019, after playing 14 times for Oldham, and hoped that his performances on loan would be enough to secure him a new contract.
However, Lyden’s poor luck with injuries continued and just 10 days after returning to Aston Villa from his loan spell, he suffered a muscle injury in training – which would take three months to recover from.
In March that year he left Villa and signed for Swindon Town where he has stayed before leaving in the summer and becoming a free agent.
Barrow boss Pete Wild was at Oldham when Lyden was on loan there and has offered him a trial period with the Bluebirds.
Barrow have enjoyed a strong start to the season under Wild, leading them to fourth in the table after seven wins in 10 games.
He could be a good option for Wild to call on, coming in for nothing to bolster his midfield options rather than waiting until January to get another body through the door for the second half of the season.
In his three years at Swindon Lyden played 53 times over three years, netting two goals and providing two assists.
