For the second week in a row Aspatria are in involved in a Cumbrian derby in Regional 2 North.
After being well beaten by Penrith at Bower Park the Black Reds now travel to Keswick.
Alarmingly for Cumbrian rugby a trio of the county’s four competing clubs in that Division occupy the bottom three places.
Keswick (4), Carlisle (1) and Aspatria (0) makes dismal reading at them moment, although at least Keswick have a win to their name.
Last week the Davidson Park club crashed 65-19 at high-flying Middlesbrough who had already beaten both Aspatria and Penrith.
But it was a very good response from Keswick after conceding a half century of points in the first half and they only lost the second by 15-12.
Aspatria suffered a calamitous start against Penrith in their eventual 48-17 defeat as they had conceded four tries in the first 20 minutes.
Penrith have a cracking contest to follow-up tomorrow as they entertain Northern who are just a place and a point behind them in fourth.
Carlisle are at home to Durham City who lie sixth in the table with two wins and two defeats. One win was 24-16 at home to Keswick while the other was a 48-17 defeat at Penrith.
Carlisle coach George Graham was bitterly disappointed with his side’s performance in a 55-19 defeat at Consett last week but will have targeted this one for a win.
Up in Regional 1 North West Kendal got off the mark in impressive fashion last week by hammering Burnage 69-14 and move to fourth bottom.
They will be hoping to follow up tomorrow at Wirral although their hosts have won their last two.
Saturday’s was a good one 42-32 at Northwich but the win before that was only 29-22 at home to Burnage.
Cumbria’s other representative in the Division Kirkby Lonsdale have had a nightmare start losing all four games so far, conceding 342 points in the process.
But tomorrow they have a chance as they travel to Burnage the side a point and a place above them. Lose this one and they really are in trouble.
At the other end of the scale in Counties 1 Cumbria the leaders Upper Eden entertain St Benedict’s.
The other games are Cockermouth v Hawcoat Park; Workington v Millom; Wigton v Penrith 2nds; Whitehaven v Silloth.
