The service and sacrifice of the Copeland community will be commemorated in Westminster over the Remembrance period.

Copeland MP Trudy Harrison has been invited to plant a wooden tribute in the House of Commons’ Constituency Garden of Remembrance, created by the Speaker’s Office and the Royal British Legion.

The Copeland tribute will be planted alongside those from all 650 constituencies across the UK in New Palace Yard, in the week leading up to Remembrance Sunday on November 13.

Mrs Harrison is asking constituents to nominate an individual, regiment or community with a connection to Copeland to whom her dedication will be made. She will share their stories and photographs on her website and social media throughout the Remembrance period.

Mrs Harrison said: “It is a privilege to again be invited to take part in this collective act of Remembrance on behalf of Copeland. The Garden of Remembrance was launched last year, and it was an honour to share stories of such heroism from across Copeland, to whom the commemorative tribute is dedicated.

“It is never more important than today that we unite to honour those who served – and continue to serve – to protect our freedoms and way of life.

“I again look forward to hearing more about men and woman from Copeland – whether they served 100 years ago or today – on whose behalf our tribute in the Garden of Remembrance will be planted.”

Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons, said: “This year we will be commemorating, honouring and remembering everyone who has stood up to defend our way of life during conflict and national emergencies.

“Whether thousands of miles from home or just down the road, they all have one thing in common; they’ve shown extraordinary dedication despite the personal cost.

“Working long, stressful hours, missing special moments with family and friends – birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas. Risking their health, wellbeing and even their lives. I look forward to hearing stories of service from constituencies across the United Kingdom.”

To nominate an individual, regiment or community, send a summary of their service (maximum 250 words, with a photo if possible) to Trudy.harrison.mp@parliament.uk before Friday, November 4.
