Curtis Teare, the former Wath Brow amateur, has now signed a permanent deal with Whitehaven for the 2023 Championship season.
He had initially signed for Workington Town to launch his professional career but he later moved on loan to Whitehaven for the rest of the season.
Teare has now signed a permanent deal with Whitehaven after making six appearances for the LEL Stadium side at the back end of the season. He scored his one try so far in the penultimate home game against London Broncos.
He was a member of the Cumbria side last Friday which beat Jamaica at Derwent Park in a World Cup warm-up game and scored one of the tries.
Overall between the two West Cumbrian clubs Teare made 21 league and cup appearances in 2022 scoring three tries and is equally as comfortable at centre or wing.
Curtis became the second generation of his family to play for the club following father Scott who represented Haven 39 times between 2006 and 2008 scoring scoring three tries.
Head coach Jonty Gorley said: “Curtis caused a lot of interest this off season from other clubs so to get his signature is a big thing for us.
“Another local signing is going to help allow us to keep our identity as a strong local player based club.
“I know he enjoyed his loan spell with us at the back end of the season and he performed really well for us. He’s a powerful lad who starts our sets off well. It will be great to work with Curtis and see him grow into an established Championship player.”
Haven say that once again the signing of Teare was made possible through the fantastic work of the Whitehaven RL Vice Presidents.
