Carlisle United produced their best performance of the season to beat Doncaster Rovers 3-0 at Brunton Park.
That stretched their unbeaten run to nine games and they have moved up to sixth in the table just three points below the automatic promotion places.
Although Carlisle just shaded an open first-half there was no doubt about the second half which they controlled throughout and if it had not been for Rovers keeper Jonathan Mitchell they could have been out of sight.
Mitchell, who played his first 14 games in senior football with Workington in National North in 2013 on loan from Newcastle, made a string of outstanding stops, including a penalty save in stoppage time.
However the best save of the game came at 0-0 from Carlisle’s Tomas Holy when he looked beaten by Ben Close’s effort but stretched out a long arm to claw away.
Mitchell almost matched that with an acrobatic leap to push an Owen Moxon header onto the bar.
The breakthrough for Carlisle came a minute before the interval and it was a spectacular effort from Callum Guy – the second goal of his career after scoring his first last month.
This time he let fly from 25 yards and although Mitchell almost got there it flashed into the bottom corner.
Eight minutes into the second half and Carlisle doubled their lead. A shot from Jordan Gibson was blocked and when he followed-up on loan Derby striker Jack Stretton was there to divert it past Mitchell.
Stretton scored his third on 66 minutes when he raced onto a fine through ball from Gibson and calmly drilled the ball past Mitchell.
There was a chance of a fourth for Carlisle in stoppage time after Adam Long fouled substitute Jayden Harris in the box but Mitchell saved Ryan Edmondson’s penalty.
