Barrow slipped to a fourth straight League defeat – a fifth in all competitions – when they lost 2-1 at Rochdale.
The Bluebirds, from second in League Two last month, now find themselves 11th in the table.
For Rochdale the victory lifted them out of the relegation positions for the first time this season.
Former Barrow striker Scott Quigley added to the gloom by scoring against his old club and there were times when the visitors could have benefitted from a proven striker of his ability.
It was Quigley who provided Barrow with their first scare when got on the end of a Liam Kelly cross but headed into the side-netting.
It was Kelly who did give Rochdale the lead in the 18th minute when he cleverly curled a shot beyond Barrow keeper Paul Farman.
Josh Gordon was nearest to an equaliser for Barrow when he headed the ball onto the roof of the net.
Farman came to Barrow’s rescue just before half-time when good link-up play between Quigley and Abraham Odoh let-in Kelly but he couldn’t beat the Barrow custodian.
Barrow should have been level a minute after the re-start when Billy Waters missed a golden opportunity but headed wide from six yards.
Barrow had more possession than their hosts but Dale were still lively on the counter and when Quigley sent Devante Rodney through his chip just hadn’t enough on it and Farman gathered.
Then Patrick Brough came to Barrow’s rescue when he was in position to clear off the line a shot from Sam Graham.
It just delayed Rochdale’s second, however, as it arrived in the 75th minute when Quigley stretched to steer home a cross from Rodney.
There was only a minute left when Niall Canavan headed home Ben Whitfield’s corner but it was too little too late as Rochdale saw-out the game.
