A Cumbrian Michelin three star restaurant has kept its top spot in this year’s Good Food Guide.

L’Enclume, based in the village of Cartmel, has kept its position as top restaurant in the first year since the guide’s return.

The news was announced last night at The Good Food Guide’s Top 20 Most Exciting Restaurants of 2022 at Soho’s Groucho Club. The 20 restaurants chosen were the standouts from the growing group of ‘Exceptional’ restaurants in the Guide that made a lasting impression with inspectors.

The guide was founded by Raymond Postgate in 1951 and remains the longest-standing and best selling guide to dining out in Great Britain.

The win also comes after the restaurant was awarded its third Michelin star in February of this year, making it the only restaurant in the north of England to do so, as well as 2022 marking two decades since it first opened its doors.

Restaurant owner Simon Rogan said: “We could not be prouder to have remained in the top spot in the Good Food Guide 2022! We’ve held this position a few times before and are so happy to have retained it in the first year since the guide’s return.

It’s so meaningful for us on so many different levels, the world has changed, and we’ve all been through tremendous challenges in the last few years. We’ve supported each other as a team through thick and thin, and that’s what has got us here.

These challenges have forged lifelong friendships that are unshakable. As this collective, we are ready for the future, whatever it may hold. We are safe in the knowledge that together, we will do our best to look after our guests, our industry and our planet. What a year it’s been so far, and what a great journey the last 20 years have been!”
